Introduction

So, i'm going to try and post trip details, lists of things to bring, etc. on this blog so that everything is in one easy to access place. Also, since we don't live near eachother, it will give us a chance to interact beforehand in order to get to know eachother and to prepare for our time there. I'll put you guys as moderators as well so that you can post as well if you want to pose a question or something like that.

In order to prepare spiritually and to begin wrestling through what community development is all about, I would like us to read through a very short book together. It's titled "Evangelism: Doing Justice and Preaching Grace" and it's by Harvie Conn. It's only about 100 pages and is a quick read. There is another awesome book by Bryant Myers titled "Walking with the poor" that is a much more comprehensive treatment of the subject, but it's also a bit longer. since i know we're all in school and are very busy, i think Conn's book will be great for now, but i would recommend you reading Myers' book if you have a chance. You can order Conn's book for about $9 from either Amazon.com or wtsbooks.com. I will PDF the first chapter and email it to you guys (or post it on this blog if i can figure out how), so that we can begin discussing now so you have time to order the book.

So every week or so, i'll throw up a couple discussion questions about the book and other misc. questions about each of us. I'll answer these questions as well, so that you guys can get to know a bit about me as well. You may have to navigate back to the posts from the year 2005 to find the ones from Haiti.
